Different aid organizations have traveled to Cape Verde for the first dengue fever outbreak. Over 13 000 people are already infected and the feber spreading quickly.
Every day the hospitals get around 150-200 new victims of this deadly fever.
It is the first outbreak of dengue fever in Cape Verde, and the largest so far in Africa. Thousand new cases are discovered daily and over 13 000 people are infected.
In little over a month, Cape Verde’s health authorities reported 13 187 suspected cases of dengue fever in four of the country’s islands. Number of infections has risen sharply since early November and is now up to 1 000 new cases per day. Foreign health experts and doctors to assist with diagnosis, treatment, care and supervision.
Dengue is the mosquito-borne disease that spreads rapidly around the world. The flu-like illness spread by mosquitoes. Symptoms are often high fever and head and muscle aches. Most patients recover but a small proportion of cases develop the more severe form of dengue, hemorrhagic, which may lead to death. To date, nearly 100 people are diagnosed and six patients have died of hemorrhagic in Cape Verde.
